Disaster officials visit 6 flood-hit Mindoro towns

NAUJAN, Oriental Mindoro – The Regional Disaster Risk Reduction and Management Council (RDRRMC) recently convened a meeting with municipal officials of Baco, Naujan and Victoria to assess the flood damage of said towns brought by the shear line and low pressure area.

Director MGEN Ruben L. Carandang of the Office of Civil Defense MIMAROPA Region sat with the mayors including Naujan Mayor Henry Joel C. Teves  whose town was the hardest hit by floodwaters.

According to the Municipal Agriculturist Office of Naujan, the damage in crops, fish ponds and poultry is estimated at P77 million.

The damage to infrastructure, including school buildings submerged in flood water, reached P170 million.

Mayor Teves has sought for national funding for flood control and other calamity disaster mitigating infrastructure. He has also appealed for food packs, rescue vehicles and construction of evacuation centers. (photos courtesy of Oriental Mindoro Provincial Information Office)
