Oriental Mindoro officials terminate Oil Spill Response

CITY OF CALAPAN, Oriental Mindoro (PIA) — Governor Humerlito “Bonz” Dolor and Vice Governor Ejay Falcon, in collaboration with various government agencies, formally sign the Joint Resolution for the Termination of the Oil Spill Response in Oriental Mindoro on August 2, 2023.

According to Incident Commander CG COMMO Geronimo B. Tuvilla and Oriental Mindoro Governor Humerlito Bonz Dolor, the demobilization of the off-shore response does not signify the government’s abandonment of the affected communities in the province. Instead, governmental assistance will persist for the affected communities.

Based on the latest data from the PCG, a combined force of 893 responders from both private and public sectors was deployed to address the oil spill issue. Of this total, 417 were from the PCG, 211 from the AFP, PNP, and other agencies, 232 from Harbor Star Shipping Services, Inc., and 34 were local volunteers.

The Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) provided a substantial aid amounting to P568,070,016.49 through various programs and projects, including Emergency Cash Transfer (ECT), Cash for Work Programs (CFW), Assistance to Individuals in Crisis Situations (AICS), and Sustainable Livelihood Program (SLP). Additionally, DSWD distributed Family Food Packs (FFPs) totaling 140,000.

A total of 19,892 individuals continue to benefit from the Livelihood Assistance for our Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD) Cum Production and Skills Training program initiated by the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) and the Technical Education and Skills Development Authority (TESDA).

To aid the fishermen in the province, the Bureau of Fisheries and Aquatic Resources (BFAR) provided assistance amounting to P60,308,393.50 through various interventions and programs.
